Horwich Festival of Racing, 19 June 2016

Well done to everyone who competed at the Horwich Festival of Racing today.  We had another good turn out for this annual event and I think it is now the 4th year orienteering has featured in the festival.  To keep the offer novel the venue for the prologue changed this year to Queens Park/Bolton School.

We have a series of results files available as follows:

Overall Combined Event - here.

Prologue Splits - here (autodownload). Winsplits - Routegadget

Urban Final Splits - here (autodownload). Winsplits.

We have also uploaded results to BOF, which can be viewed here.

Organisers comments:

An organisers life is made much easier with a competent experienced team of helpers on the day.  I have been very fortunate in the team I had available and my life was made that much easier.  On the day it looked a little like overkill with helpers but I was planning for a much larger turn out especially with entries on the day.  I was a little nervous of the park having seen it a few weeks previous at around the same time as the event but on a hot sunny Sunday; it was heaving in all areas.  Obviously the risk of a runner/park user impact in those conditions becomes incredibly high but we had planned for it.  Also, the availability of parking space on the car park becomes an issue but we did have two very good contingencies, which in the end we did not need.  As it was, we only had 80+ competitors on the day, which in my opinion was disappointing considering all the hard work that Steve Round and the rest of the team put into making this event happen.

From those lucky people who attended I have only heard good things about both the Prologue and the Final, which does make all the work worthwhile.  I thought that Stephen Richards put on a fabulous event using the park to its fullest extent.  I have to thank Bolton MBC for allowing us the use of the Pavillion Room, which tied in with the very well appointed cafe made for an excellent venue befitting our fine orienteers. Amonst my teams of regular stalwarts that I had already thanked on the day for their valuable time and skills is one of our new members, Mike Plant, who was well and truly dunked in the murky waters of event planning and organising and still came up smiling.  Well done Mike and welcome to the club.

We hope to welcome you all back next year for another exciting episode of the 'Horwich Festival of Racing'.  Kev Latham

Thinking ahead, SELOC are putting on some Summer Street Orienteering starting with Bromley Cross, Bolton on Tuesday 28th June.  Our Monday clubnight continues its summer tour to local parks throughout the summer.

Entries are now being taken on Fabian for the Liverpool Big Weekend, which combines DEE's race on Ainsdale Dunes on Saturday 3 September (500 race limit) with the inaugrual Liverpool Urban on Sunday 4 September.  More Details here.
