Tandle Hill, 27th Dec 2012

Results for the Christmas event at Tandle Hill can be found in the attached link:

Organisers Comments:

Thank you to all the competitors and family guests who turned up and took part in our event earlier today.  It was great to have about 45 competitors made up of experienced orienteers, family members and even friends from a number of different clubs.  Considering all of the rain in the week before the event, the weather on the day was a little more kind to us, with only the odd shower near to the start of the event.

As most of you found out at the Christmas Lunch afterwards, you all actually competed against one another and played a Christmas game of Scrabble Orienteering.

Results showed that about 75% of the competitors had point scores of 60 and above. Result positions are purely based on the total points you obtained and taking away the time and handicap penalties. We have included your times for this morning’s game for your information. In the end there were two joint winners, Paul Booth and Steve Wilson who each obtained 89 points. On further analysis of the results, we realised that we should have made an effort to plan a score course with fewer controls (say 15) with the same points total (82) available which would have enabled some of the less experienced orienteers to compete with higher point scores.

Thanks to Annmarie, Therése, Joel and Adam for helping to arrange the registration, being the mobile Santas and for helping to tot up the scores at the end during lunch. Thanks to Mark Sammon and his son, Oliver for also being a mobile Santa, to Sarah Booth for her adding up and others who helped with equipment (Caroline and Pete), and finally to Phil for alerting us to the real location of Control HH on the 21 control map just before the mass start.

We wish you Happy Orienteering in 2013
