Crompton Moor, 20 July 2013

Results from Saturdays race at Crompton Moor can be found here.

SELOC don't have a Saturday morning event in August but we will be back in action in September - this time at Haigh Hall in Wigan on Saturday 28 September 2013. There will be yellow, orange, light green, short blue and a score course using all available controls. More information about this event will appear on this website shortly - click here. In the interim club night continues virtually every week on Monday nights through the summer so keep an eye on the website for the next venue - we move park every week so we may be in your area soon.

Organisers Comments for Crompton Moor, Shaw 20/07/13

Thank you to all the competitors who turned up at Crompton Moor and took part in this introductory event. It was very pleasing to have about 35 competitors with over 50% from clubs other than SELOC. I hope you enjoyed the courses today and that you will return to future SELOC events. Overall, we had many positive comments from competitors and we are grateful for them as they provide us with good feedback as to what we do well and where we can improve. So, surprisingly on the day, we had good weather, the breeze and intermittent cloud cover made the conditions slightly cooler. It seems everyone returned safely (except for a few scratches!!). I hope that the more technical courses gave you firstly a good run-out, with some legs providing tricky route choice and others to practice different techniques. The big issues on the day were trying to cope with the flies and brambles although we had tried to mitigate the brambles problem by cutting away the most prolific growth around some of the control points on the Yellow and Orange courses. Thanks to Phil and Joel for this work. I hope the youngsters and newcomers did not find the Yellow and Orange courses too difficult especially with the hot weather, I tried to keep the climb to a minimum.

Thanks to Steve Round for help, advice and guidance on planning, Annmarie and Adam for organising the registration and start/finish area, Therese and Joel for Yellow/Orange course control placement and collection plus providing help at the Registration. Thanks to Phil for running the Start and control placement for some of the Short Green/Blue courses and finally thanks to Kevan and Nathan for collecting in some controls for us at the end of the day.

A compass was left behind at registration yesterday. Can the person who it belongs to please get in touch with SELOC (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), we will try to get it back to you through the Orienteering community.
