XMas Bash, 28 December 2015

Bad Santa (aka Kevan Latham) set some ingenious courses in Ashfield Park, Standish today.  Bad Santa had deviously failed to put out all the kit - so in some instances control sites were missing control boxes and in some places even flags.  Competitors therefore needed to keep their wits about them at all times in order to navigate the various course combinations, which involved multiple maps and plenty of mud.

The event deviated from the mass start format of recent christmas events with competitors lining up in four start lanes.  Competitors had the choice of up to four different maps to complete, with straight line distances ranging from 1.0km, through 2.2km and 3.7km to 5.3km.  Event winners were calculated on the basis of average speed, against the straight line distance for their combination of maps.  There were a number of mispunches owing to this challenging race format and these were penalised with a 60 second penalty per mis punch.

Our winners were as follows:

Junior Males: Robert Seddon and Finlay Hayes

Junior Females: Lucy Seddon and Sophie Hayes

Adult Male: Joe Mercer

Adult Female: Rachel Mercer

Senior Male: Paul Turner

Senior Female: Janet Middleton

An additional, discretionary award was made to the person the planner deemed to have achieved the poorest performance on the day.  Steve Round therefore received the SELOC christmas wooden spoon in its inaugral awarding.
